Air freight into Iran

For cargo that cannot wait for a vessel: space booked from the main origins into Imam Khomeini airport, quoted alongside the ocean option so you can compare.

When air is the right answer

When not having the cargo costs more than moving it

Air freight is expensive and often unnecessary. But when a line is down for one component, when the goods have a shelf life, or when a letter of credit is about to expire, the arithmetic is simple: put the cost of a day of delay next to the difference between the sea rate and the air rate.

We quote both together — the air rate and the ocean rate, each with its transit time — so the decision is made on a number rather than a hunch. If ocean is the sensible answer, we will say so.

Services

What is available

Choosing between these has less to do with the weight of the cargo than with how urgent it is and what the budget allows.

General air cargo

Space booked on scheduled services, belly or freighter, from the origin airport into Imam Khomeini or Mehrabad. The most economical way to fly.

Air consolidation

Several small consignments moving under one master air waybill. Cheaper than shipping each alone, provided you have a day or two of flexibility.

Urgent parts and samples

Small, high-value consignments where the delay is the expensive part — tracked daily and reported at every station.

Next flight out

The cargo goes on the first available service rather than waiting for a scheduled one. The most expensive option, and the fastest.

Dangerous goods by air

To the IATA regulations, with the shipper’s declaration, approved packaging and the airline cleared in advance.

Charter and outsize cargo

For a piece that will not fit a scheduled service, or a volume that fills an aircraft — checked against the cargo door before anything is booked.

Documents and clearance

Air cargo arrives sooner, so the file has to be ready sooner

On an ocean shipment there are weeks in which to get the paperwork straight. On an air shipment there are not: the cargo can land within a day, and if the file is not ready it sits in the airport warehouse with storage running from day one.

So we start with the documents rather than the booking. Before the flight, it is settled what is needed and who is producing it.

  • Air waybill and invoice checked before departure
  • The customs file opened while the cargo is in the air
  • Delivery coordinated at the Imam Khomeini cargo terminal
  • Inland delivery from the airport to your warehouse

Common questions

What people ask about air freight

Air rates apply to whichever is greater, the actual weight or the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is the volume divided by the carrier’s dimensional factor, so a light but bulky package can be charged well above what the scale says. Send us the package dimensions and we will give you the real figure.

The flight is the short part. What takes time is securing space, origin formalities and clearance at destination. In practice, from handover at origin to available for delivery in Tehran is usually a matter of days, and longer in peak season.

No. Lithium batteries, flammable liquids, aerosols and a range of chemicals are restricted, and some carriers will not take them at all. Send the safety data sheet before booking and we will check acceptance.

Yes, and it is often the cheapest answer. Flying the urgent portion and shipping the balance by sea usually costs far less than putting a whole consignment on an aircraft when only part of it is time-critical.

Yes, and the binding limit is usually the cargo door rather than the weight. A passenger aircraft with belly capacity has a real height restriction; a freighter is more forgiving but costs more. We check the piece dimensions before booking.

Carrier liability is capped per kilogram under the Montreal Convention, and that cap is very low against high-value goods. For valuable consignments, separate marine cargo cover is worth having.
